WATERCOLOR PAINTING COURSES
Mont-St-Michel
This painting is taken from one of my French travels. It is the wonderful rock structure of Mont St Michel, which is between Normandy and Brittany and is just off the coast. On this rocky outcrop they have built a most magnificent abbey and town, which for many centuries was invincible. In the year 708 it is said that the archangel appeared to the bishop of Avranches and issued instructions to him to build a church on top of Mount Tombay, a rocky island off the mouth of the river Couesnon. This he did and this wonderful structure stands today. Over the ages it was besieged on many occasions but never did anybody ever succeed in breaking into it. It was therefore an impregnable fortress.
